Data Governance Anyone?

Sun in December? Yep!

We were in Delray Beach, Florida last week at the Data Governance Winter Conference and it was sunny and gorgeous – not something to be taken for granted this time of year, right?

All 250+ participants spent the week in and out of educational sessions, learning about new technologies in the data governance space, and seeing first hand how some of these technologies can improve the way their organizations govern data.

It is becoming clearer and clearer that the industry understands exactly where many data governance tools are falling short – and that automated metadata management is what they’re missing. This is not insignificant, for two years ago the only ones who even knew what metadata was were the BI guys or the techies. Today more business users (analysts and data scientists) are asking to understand, find, access and discover metadata so that they can better interact with their data. There is a tremendous increase in the criticality of metadata management inside the greater sphere of data management, and what many are realizing more and more is that it is equally important as its older brother (data).

The turnout was really great. Amnon and Gal had a bet going on how many people would attend Amnon’s speaking session. Would it be closer to 30? 50? Well, both lost by a long shot with a whopping 105 attendees turning out to hear Amnon’s talk, Metadata Governance: Empowering BI with Automation & Analysis.

It was very exciting to see such an interested crowd!

From live demos, engaging discussions, friendly meals and lots of photo opportunities, the Data Governance Winter Conference was really a huge success and we look forward to more!
